Have the Conversation that is in your Head
I was talking with a client this week, and he told me he wouldn’t go to his son’s graduation party because the party would be at his ex-wife’s house, and they aren’t getting along. When I asked why they weren’t getting along, he didn’t know; he said she was just mean to him, and he was punishing her by not talking and not showing up to the party.
I suggested he have a conversation with her because I could hear the conversation he was having in his head. We designed it for him to start by letting her know how important it was for him to have a good relationship with her. He even owned what he knew he did during the divorce that he was not proud of. He will apologize and ask if there is anything else he needs to apologize for. Imagine the courage this takes and also imagine his relief when it is done. This is a gift to his sons and also for himself and his ex, their friends, and their families. We get to be the leaders in our lives, and we get to do this by having hard conversations over and over again. You will build so much trust in yourself to heal any rift.
This is an invaluable skill that everyone needs to learn. It will help you at work, home, school, or anywhere there are other humans. Lauren Zander created this How To Have a Hard Conversation Process, has used it, and taught it hundreds of times. She will lead a FREE class for the public, and you are invited to join. You can also invite your friends, family, and loved ones. Everyone is welcome.
